MANILA -- "Let it rest, hayaan na natin."
These were John Lloyd Cruz's words in addressing, for the first time, a controversy involving actress Anne Curtis, who was accused in December of having a drunken tirade at an upscale bar with the actor supposedly at the receiving end.
Cruz made the statement Tuesday on the sidelines of the filming of his ongoing sitcom co-starring Toni Gonzaga, "Home Sweetie Home," inside the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City.
The 30-year-old actor was asked how his girlfriend, actress Angelica Panganiban, showed her support at the height of the publicized incident, which supposedly involved an irate Curtis slapping three individuals including Cruz.
Curtis, who admitted some of the allegations, emphasized in her apology on Twitter that the parties involved had already settled their differences before the matter was made public in a report.
In response to the question on Tuesday, Cruz initially said, "Ano ba ang pinag-uusapan natin? Kung iyong ano parin... Diyos ko, wala na, ayoko na talagang ano... Kasi hahaba, hahaba nang sobra dahil may kanya-kanyang versions eh. Hindi naman pwedeng... 'Diba?"
"Let it rest, hayaan natin," he added. "Hindi na magandang pag-usapan, kahit sabihin pa nating kung paano ako sinuportahan [ni Angelica]."
In her first media interview after the November 23 incident, Curtis sang a similar tune, even saying she would be willing to work with Cruz.
The actress was interviewed on the matter on January 10, when she was introduced as the lead star in ABS-CBN's upcoming TV adaptation of Mars Ravelo's "Dyesebel." At the time, Curtis said she felt overwhelmed by the "blessing" of leading a high-profile project despite the recent controversy.
Similarly, Cruz expressed on Tuesday that he is happy with the recent developments in his career, which include an upcoming movie co-starring Jessy Mendiola, Richard Gomez, and Gretchen Barretto, and the strong viewership of the ongoing "Home Sweetie Home."
He said the same is the case with his personal life.
"Masaya, masaya lang," he said, when asked about his relationship with Panganiban. "Wala namang ibang rason na hindi maging masaya. Maraming mga biyaya ang binibigay ng Diyos, 'yung mga nangyayari sa ating mga personal na buhay."
